Viola Duchess, the present Duke's mother, was keen for as many people as possible to see the Long Room and therefore one of its main uses was as a venue for charity fundraising events. This tradition continues under the present Duke and Duchess, and in 1992 the Long Room was refurbished whilst retaining the same atmosphere of a large country house drawing room.
Much used for charity and other fundraising events, the Long Room can hold up to 100 people and benefits from a number of other changes made in recent years. For example, the room where the horses used to be washed down has been made into a servery and kitchen, and what was the saddle room is now a large dining room with a long refectory table.
